Microsoft signed patent deals with Acer and ViewSonic

With Acer and ViewSonic, Microsoft has announced a pair of patent licensing agreements yielding the company’s extensive coverage of the tablets and smartphones running Android mobile operating system by Google.Redmond, Wash-based company issued a press release which stated that ViewSonic, under the agreement will pay royalties, which covers the Chrome platform. The statement of Microsoft regarding Acer’s deals does not specify whether the royalties are involved in the agreement of patent license.

A report declares that Windows maker creates more money off patent licensing to Android vendors than it does off its own Windows Phone 7 platforms. HTC gives $5 per Android device sold to Microsoft.

Microsoft announced that it had reached four new Android patent deals, in July. Velocity Micro, General Dynamics and Onkyo Corp have all signed agreements with the company.

Acer has said that it is ready to face any challenge regarding patent infringement with the Android platform. Apple has been accused of beginning a patent war with HTC over Android, by Chairman JT Wang.

Hot words have been exchanged over the present situation of patents by the Microsoft and Google Executives last month. The argument initiated when Google’s chief legal officer criticized that Microsoft, Apple and others have united against the company by banding together to buy up patents from Novell and Nortel. Microsoft gave a powerful answer by saying that Google had rejected an invitation to join the Novell association.

Larry Page, CEO of Google was of the view that it had obtained Motorola to guard Android from anti-competitive threats from Microsoft, Apple and other companies. The company announced the deal to acquire Motorola, which has more than 17,000 patents, for $12.5 billion last month.

The legal battle continued between Apple and Android vendors such as Samsung and HTC. The HTC sued Apple again with patents it had obtained from Google, earlier this week. Against Samsung’s Galaxy line of tablets and smartphones, the biggest rival for Apple, it has been victorious in attaining a number of injunctions.
