Carrier IQ, the foremost provider of Mobile Service and Intelligence Solution to the Wireless Industry is on its way to fasten iOS devices. The company is on the mission to offer Wireless carrier and handset makers an extraordinary approach to their customers. This aim has led it to support millions of mobile devices, previously it was focusing mainly on Android but now it has diverted its attention towards Ios as well. This was confirmed on Twitter by the eminent iPhone hacker Chpwn. He tweeted that versions at least as recent as iPhone OS 3.1.3 contained references to Carrier IQ and later confirmed it’s in all versions of iOS, including iOS 5.
Initially chpwn pragmatic that Carrier IQ’s software can be activated only in iPhone’s diagnostic mode. He affirmed in the blog post that the Cupertino giant has incorporated some form of Carrier IQ software to all versions of iOS, including iOS 5. It has got good point that it doesn’t consume as much time to send details as the DiagnosticsAllowed setting takes. The local logs presented on the iOS stores less information than the Android.
References to Carrier IQ’s server’s id also present in the iPhoneOS 3.1.3 in a file found in /usr/bin/IQAgent and it has been verified as well. Although there are some references to an IQAgent log on the device as well as references to collector.sky.carrieriq.com, but it is still not known that what exactly that binary is able to access or how it may communicate.
There are no official words on what is or is not being tracked or collected. Intell on MacRumors’ forums has found similar references to the http://collector.sky.carrieriq.com located within /usr/bin/awd_ice2, for 4.0 and 5.0 versions, but it is not verified by us.
The story is still in mounting mode but the developer chpwn has assured to unearth all the details in his next post. All what is confirmed at this stage is that the Carrier IQ has hooked the Ios. Keep following us as we dig for more information.
